CSOs, policy-makers and the private sector meet to discuss the future of aid

 

On 15 November Eurodad, CNCD-11.11.11 and Oxfam International organised the public seminar “The future of aid and development effectiveness.” The seminar brought together civil society groups, experts, EU decision-makers, parliamentarians and private sector representatives to debate the role of the private sector in the post-Busan agenda. The event was also an opportunity to publicly launch the latest Eurodad report: Hitting the Target? Evaluating the Effectiveness of Results-based Approaches to Aid.” After a fruitful discussion, participants called on relevant stakeholders to be accountable for previous commitments to the aid effectiveness agenda.

Ethical Deficit


Eurodad member SLUG has launched a new report “Ethical Deficit” on the Norwegian Sovereign Wealth Fund’s investments in government bonds.

This summer the Norwegian Minister of International Development announced that the Norwegian Government would carry out the first ever creditor debt audit. It is important to note, however, that while the debt covered by the Norwegian audit is less than 1 billion NOK owed by 7 countries, Norway has outstanding loans held by the Norwegian Government Pension Fund Global (GPFG, or the Oil Fund) worth 600 billion NOK, spread across 44 different countries.
